THE YOUTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE OF THE M&M AREA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS 3rd ANNUAL YOUNG PHILANTHROPIST AWARD

The Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) of the M&M Area Community Foundation awarded its third annual Young Philanthropist award to David Antonissen of Niagara High School at a grant reception held at the Best Western, Marinette on Thursday, May 22nd. 

The award, sponsored by the Youth Advisory Committee and the Stephenson National Bank and Trust, provides an opportunity to annually recognize and reward young volunteers who help better the communities in which they live.  The winner’s name is added to the Young Philanthropist Award plaque that is on display at the M&M Area Community Foundation office.  The winner also receives an engraved plaque and a $200.00 scholarship from the Youth Advisory Committee.  The YAC and the Stephenson National Bank & Trust Fund also make a grant in the amount of $400.00 jointly to the charitable organization of the winner’s choice.

Mary Staudenmaier, Chairman of the Board of Stephenson National Bank & Trust, presented the award to Mr. Antonissen.  The activities David participates in are endless.  Helping to organize the seasonal Veteran’s Coloring Contest, setting up for community picnics, painting the cemetery fence, cutting grass for the elderly are just a few examples of his outstanding accomplishments.  In the fall, David is busy chaperoning dances, collecting canned goods for local food banks, raking leaves for the disabled and helping with roadside clean up.  During the winter David carols, rings the bell for Salvation Army, makes giving baskets and shovels snow.  Other activities include ushering at the Rabies Clinic, moving neighbors, collecting pop tabs for Cancer Lifeline and collecting eye glasses for the Lion’s Club.  David also completes on-line donation hours to benefit World Hunger, the Rain Forest, Animal Rescues, Cancer and Literacy.  David is also the recipient of three other awards for his community service: The President’s Volunteer Service Award, the Teen Making a Difference Award and the Angels in Action Award.
