November 2016 - This week the M&M Area Community Foundation, along with hundreds of other foundations around the nation are celebrating Community Foundation Week. This is a time to recognize the impact that the M&M Area Community Foundation has made through the support of the community and remember that no matter what your cause, it is your community and your foundation.
The MMACF has an amazing opportunity to maximize its impact, but they need your help! An anonymous donor has agreed to match Philanthropy Fund contributions up to $8,500. This means that contributions made before the end of 2016 will be MATCHED, doubling the amount that can be granted back to the community immediately!
Odds are, programs and efforts that are important to you are also important to the M&M Area Community Foundation. In addition to directly impacting our community, the Foundation serves as a resource to area nonprofit groups to support their efforts and expand their impact.
The MMACF does this annually through their Philanthropy Fund. The Fund, formed in 2015, was designed to generate grantable amounts to be distributed immediately. It operates differently than the rest of the funds traditionally associated with the foundation and can be funded at whatever level of giving fits your lifestyle. Large or small, donations to the Philanthropy Fund have an immediate impact!
“This fund is different than our other endowments. Half the money is put into an endowment and half is gifted out immediately to other nonprofits to support their programs throughout Marinette and Menominee counties,” said Executive Director Paula Gruszynski.
“This is a great opportunity for people to get involved,” said Cindy Boyle, Board member. “No gift is too small. It is a chance for all members of the community to be a part of something bigger and to really make an impact.”
Some of the groups that received last year’s Philanthropy Fund grants include: CASA of Menominee County, The Crivitz Area Youth Group, Fish Volunteer Services, Good Music for a Good Cause, Volunteer Chaplains, Menominee County 4-H, Great Start Collaborative, St. Vincent de Paul, The Salvation Army, and Wausaukee Enterprises, Inc.
Residents and businesses are encouraged to contribute to the Philanthropy Fund. Half of all contributions received in 2016 will be awarded during the January 2017 Philanthropy Fund grant cycle. The remaining funds will be added to the endowment.
Community members interested in donating to the Philanthropy Fund may contact the MMACF at 906-864-3599 or visit www.mmacf.org to contribute online. Checks may also be mailed to the M&M Area Community Foundation at 1110 10th Avenue, Suite L-1, Menominee, MI 49858.
