Women’s Giving Circle to hold ‘Stitch and Give’

For Immediate Release
Thursday, January 26th, 2017

The Women’s Giving Circle, a committee of the M&M Area Community Foundation, is combining cabin fever with craft making at a “Stitch & Give” event on set for February 12th at The Harbors.

The 1:30-3:30 p.m. event is open to Women’s Giving Circle (WGC) members and other area women who want to socialize and bond over needlework, from sewing to knitting.

“By February we all begin to feel the effects of winter and the need to get out and do something different,” says Robin Kinzer West, WGC’s chairperson. “We’re offering a chance for women to build community and friendships over needle and craft projects, a time-honored tradition.”

The event is aimed at sewers, knitters, crafters, quilters and others who want to help create items for newborn diaper bags, such as burp cloths, fleece blankets, hats and booties. Items will be donated to future diaper bag drives coordinated by Project Give.

In late 2016, WGC and Project Give collaborated on a month-long diaper bag drive for area newborns and their mothers. The effort collected 58 diaper bags, 1,400 diapers and much more.

“While we encourage Stitch & Give participants to work on baby items, we welcome any woman who wants to get out of the house for a few hours, work on a craft project, or learn a new skill, and maybe make new friends,” says West.

Adds WGC member Tina Oman, “This is the perfect event for people who want to learn to knit or pick up another new skill.”

Organizers also point out that there are plenty of jobs for those who just want to socialize, like cutting fabric and even serving refreshments.

WGC will supply fabric, yarn, fleece and supplies for simple projects such as burp cloths and baby bonnets. Donations for such items are being sought and may be dropped off at The Harbors, 1110 10th Ave., Menominee. Those who wish their donations to be picked up may call the Women’s Giving Circle at 715-952-2007.

There is no charge to participate. Refreshments will be served.

Women who wish to participate in Stitch & Give or who have questions may call the WGC at 715-952-2007. RSVPS may be emailed to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
